Synopsis: I know what you did last summer.

Aubree Walker, the perfect girl most likely to succeed, is sure there’s only one person who knows what she did.

Booker Outlaw, one of the three Outlaw brothers—all identical, all gorgeous, all from the wrong side of the tracks, and all pure bad boys. He was always the unpredictable one, the one who would be brash enough to make it big self-publishing horror novels on the internet. He promised never to tell, but everyone knows you can never trust an Outlaw.

Then a year later, in the middle of the night, she receives a phone call at Tulane. Her aunt, who took her in after her mother’s death, is in a coma under suspicious circumstances. Now she has to face that one person who knows all about what she did that summer—sexy Booker.

Returning to Hope Parish to be with her aunt, stirs up all those ugly memories. When Aubree starts getting threats, she can’t help but wonder if what she did last summer was tied to her aunt’s “accident.” Afraid, she turns to the only person who knows the truth and Booker doesn’t hesitate to offer his broad shoulder for her to lean on. But Booker has a secret of his own that could crush their fledgling relationship.

As the hot, sultry summer days move on, she finds that even a perfectly smart girl can lose her heart to a perfectly bad boy. What is she going to do when someone starts asking questions Aubree doesn’t want to answer? She’s knee deep into a terribly dangerous, wholly life changing, who-can-she-really-depend-on perfect mess.

Review: 3 Stars - A Perfect Mess is the first title in the A Perfect Secret Series from author Zoe Dawson. As another welcomed “New Adult” novel, I couldn't wait to read this mysterious story!

Aubree is a college freshman living away from home. She hasn't returned to her aunt’s house since they left and has no intention of going back anytime soon. She’s running from her past, running from something that happened, something that bad boy Booker Outlaw helped her with. She’s closed off because of her past and some painful issues she’s dealing with from when she was younger. When an unexpected accident happens to her aunt she rushes home to be by her side.

Returning home means facing more than ghosts from the previous summer, it also means facing Booker Outlaw, one of the Outlaw triplets. Yes… triplets. Oh and he’s a self published author. He can sing, play the piano and has more southern charm then should be legal for a bad boy character. Booker has protected Aubree time and time again since she moved to Hope Parish when she came to live with her aunt. They have a weird relationship. Each wants more but they are scared for reasons that we learn throughout their story.

One of the best things about this story is the Outlaw triplets. The town looks down on them from a time before they were born due to a long… long ago relative. I guess that’s what happens in a small town, yet the way they handled it was admirable. Yeah, they got into trouble but when you have a reputation that you can’t escape because of a relative - who’s been gone for years, well I’m sure I’d go about things the same way or at least somewhat the same way that these three do.

I had a guess as to what the big mystery was pretty early on in the book and I had in fact guessed pretty spot on. There was a twist that happened that I kind of had an idea about but it happened better than I could have imagined. While there were times when reading the story felt rushed or just, eh, in the end I enjoyed reading about the three brothers.

Being that this is the beginning of a series we had a chance to see which lucky girl would be the spotlight for the other two brothers’ books and I can’t wait to see how Dawson writes more about these other characters. I’m excited to learn what these other secrets are and to get a chance to see the inside of each of the other brothers’ heads.

All in all, it wasn't bad yet wasn't perfect. It was entertaining and I love a good mystery. It adds a nice layer to the usual contemporary title and I’m all for something different to read. I also loved that there were triplets and how close they were to each other and how they interacted with each other. I do recommend this title to those looking for something different with a side of mystery and some pretty incredible triplets. Contemporary fans go forth and read!
